Lou Page reopens the X-Files and wonders down the rabbit hole. Joel had the opportunity to take Mad Max Fury Road for a test drive, and as this season of the Winter is Coming segment comes closer to the finale, we talk about what is likely the highlight of the season of Game of Thrones, episode 9, The Dance of Dragons.

Game of Thrones – Winter is Coming Season 5

Episode 09 – The Dance of Dragons (wiki)
Plot Summary:
In the midst of a snowstorm, Stannis’ camp is sabotaged when Ramsay’s men light fires to destroy his supplies. Melisandre is convinced that they need to make a good sacrifice to reach Winterfell, so Stannis reluctantly sacrifices his daughter Princess Shireen, burning her alive at the stake, while she desperately cries out for her parents. Jon and the wildlings return to the Wall, where their welcome is fraught with tension. In Dorne, Prince Doran agrees that Jaime can return to King’s Landing with Myrcella, but only if Trystane accompanies them and serves on the small council in Oberyn’s place. In Meereen, the fighting pits reopen and Daenerys is stunned to see Jorah fight for her forgiveness. Although he is successful, his triumph is interrupted by a fierce attack by the Sons of the Harpy, who quickly surround Daenerys and her supporters. Just as all hope seems lost, Drogon arrives, and Daenerys mounts her dragon and flies away from Meereen, her followers and enemies watching alike in awe.
  • Joel’s Notes:
    • Arya
      • Ser Meryn Trant is the guy with Tyrell that Arya follows instead of poisoning the Thin Man.
        • He killed Syrio Forel, Arya’s dancing master. (Sword trainer.)
        • He also was the King’s Guard responsible for beating Sansa.
      • There was a lot of focus on the fact that Trant is a pedophile, which is the information that Arya needs to (hopefully) put Trant on the kill list at the House of Black and White.
    • Jon
      • We got our action in the north last week.
        • Lou, what did you think of the “Game of Thrones Zombies?”
      • This week was a lot of stern looks… We really didn’t learn anything new other than those that left Hardhome, did make it south of the wall.
    • Stannis
      • Fuck you Stannis!
        • Religious fanaticism in any form always gets me.
      • I don’t remember Shireen’s death from the books. I make it a point not to read many of the articles around Game of Thrones for two reasons; Spoilers and overactive bullshit.
        • As far as I can tell this is the rumor I heard about that actually spoils “an event” in the books that no one knew about.
      • Man, if you didn’t like Stannis before, you sure as hell don’t like him (or Selise or Melisandre) now.
    • Jamie
      • Some political maneuvering in Dorne negotiating the return of Myrcella on conditions that Trystane and her wed, and Trystane retain a seat on the small council.
        • Obviously no one is aware of the events happening in King’s Landing with Margaery and Cersei.
    • Daenerys
      • Epic scene with Drogon!
        • I knew Drogon was coming and had to bite my tongue all season.
        • Drogon looked good and sounded fantastic!
          • Like the way his flame billows.
        • Was happy that he wasn’t going unchallenged or unhurt. Key in Daenerys’s being concerned for him.
      • Great focus on Tyrion when Drogon arrives. We forget that this is only the second time ever he has seen a dragon and he’s getting a front row seat to Drogon in action.
      • Jorah was dead a few times in that fight. I really dislike it when characters live by pure “chance” or in this case, pure orchestration. “Have something stupid happen/his opponent stall or be a complete useless tit so he doesn’t die.” – Boring!
        • At least give him a serious wound or something.
